Zodiacal releasing is a Hellenistic time-lord technique preserved by Vettius Valens. It releases a lot — Fortune or Spirit — through the signs in zodiacal order. Each sign is allotted its planetary period years. The result is a life divided into nested chapters: some peak, some quiet.
PathFinder Charts computes that sequence from a natal chart. This page is how the engine does it. It is not a birthday widget, and it does not invent peak dates.
Full zodiacal releasing needs the Lot of Fortune or the Lot of Spirit, and those lots need the Ascendant, the Sun, the Moon, and sect — day chart or night chart. A few minutes of birth-time error can move a lot across a sign boundary and shift level-one chapters by decades.
That is why this page does not ask for a birth date and then print a personal timeline. A static page cannot cast the lots. The table below is the period table PathFinder Charts uses, labeled as a reference, not as your release. To run the technique, open the app and cast it on a chart. Zodiacal releasing is PathFinder+.
The engine first decides sect. A chart is day when the Sun sits in the arc from the Descendant, through the Midheaven, to the Ascendant. The Sun on the Descendant counts as day; the Sun on the Ascendant counts as night.
From sect it computes the two lots:
The lot's sign is the starting sign. From there the engine walks the 211-year period table in zodiacal order. Level 1 periods are computed server-side in years. Level 2 sub-periods nest inside each Level 1 window, using the same proportions in months. Level 3 and Level 4 are sized in shared TypeScript from that same table, so the nested chapters stay in step.
In the app you pick the lot (Fortune or Spirit), a target date, and a projection window. The default projection is 75 years; the cap is 208. The timeline marks the active chapter, peak flags, and any loosing of the bond.
This is the table PathFinder Charts uses. It is not a personal release. Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius; Capricorn takes the reduced 27, Aquarius Saturn's full 30. The twelve signs sum to 211 years.
A Level 1 chapter lasts that many years. When it ends, the next sign takes over. The change of sign is a change of era for the lot being released — a new atmosphere, often felt before events confirm it.
On the timeline, PathFinder Charts marks a period as peak when the releasing sign is the lot's own sign or the sign opposite it. Peak means heightened importance and activity. It does not mean pleasant. The tone comes from the natal planets in that sign and from hard aspects to it, refined by sect.
The other signs are quieter chapters: preparation, consolidation, or recovery between acts. The same transit lands differently in an on-stage year of a strong chapter than in a retired year of an afflicted one. State the climate first, then the weather.
When Level 1 and Level 2 peak periods coincide, the window is especially active. A short peak still matters: what begins in those years tends to carry through the chapter that follows.
Periods nest. Level 1 allots years per sign. Level 2 reproduces the same proportions in months and always begins on the Level 1 sign, then counts forward. Level 3 and Level 4 tighten the same pattern into days and hours.
For a yearly reading, PathFinder Charts narrates the current Level 1 period as the background of the year, then layers the Level 2 sub-period as the plot currently active inside that chapter. Profections, returns, and transits play out against that climate.
The engine flags a loosing of the bond when a Level 2 sub-period lands on the sign opposite the current Level 1 sign. Instead of repeating the circuit, the sequence jumps to opposite ground and resumes from there.
That rupture is a structural break, not a mood. It is the kind of turn that splits a chapter into before and after — a change of role, location, or direction. Most lives see only one or two Level 2 loosings. The events are not automatically difficult. What is consistent is the discontinuity.
The two lots run on independent clocks.
A peak Spirit chapter over a quiet Fortune chapter is professional prominence on ordinary circumstances. An afflicted Fortune chapter under a strong Spirit chapter is a year when the body and material situation need protecting even while the work holds. Agreement between the lots multiplies the year's signature. Conflict between them is itself the reading.
Both are Hellenistic time-lord techniques. They answer different questions.
Annual profections activate one house per year, counted from the rising sign on a twelve-year cycle. They tell you which house is active this year, and which planet is the time lord. That count needs only age at last birthday and rising sign. It is free in PathFinder Charts.
Zodiacal releasing divides a life into peak and quiet chapters by releasing a lot through the signs at planetary-period rates. It needs a natal chart, sect, and the lots. It is PathFinder+. Do not treat a profection house year as a releasing chapter, or the other way around.
Zodiacal releasing is shipped. It is not part of the Pathfinder Method's Seven Data Sets. The Method is a separate timing stack — progressions, solar arcs, outer-planet transits, and return charts. Releasing sits alongside that stack as a Hellenistic chapter frame, the same way annual profections sit as a yearly house frame.
Those belong to a timed natal chart. PathFinder Charts runs them there.
The free tier includes the natal chart, daily transits, annual profections, three birth profiles, and two AI mini-readings a day. No card. PathFinder+ is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, with a 7-day trial on annual billing, and adds the rest of the thirteen chart types — including zodiacal releasing.
In the app the same calculator walks Fortune or Spirit from sect, uses the 211-year table above, computes L1/L2 boundaries on the server, and sizes L3/L4 from the shared period values. Positions come from a real astronomical ephemeris validated against JPL Horizons. Interpretation uses retrieval-augmented generation over a curated library. Primary application servers sit with Hetzner in Falkenstein, Germany.
The other Hellenistic time-lord PathFinder Charts ships is the annual profections calculator — house year, not life chapter. For the wider timing stack, start with what predictive astrology is. The glossary entry is the short definition. If you are deciding whether to move tools, the switching guides state what PathFinder computes and what it costs.
Zodiacal releasing is PathFinder+. The free tier still includes the natal chart, daily transits, and annual profections.
